Deputy Minister Hasani at the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM)

Today, via VTC, Deputy Minister of Defence Bashkim Hasani participated in the South-Eastern Defence Ministerial (SEDM).

During the meeting, the defence ministers exchanged views on regional security and discussed opportunities for further enhancement of the co-operation in the field of defence. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening political and military co-operation in Southeast Europe, with a view to promoting regional security, stability and good neighborly relations.

Additionally, the current status of the established projects as part of the SEDM process was discussed, and the Annual Plan of Activities, essential for the functioning of SEEBRIG during 2021, was approved.

SEDM is a process of cooperation between the Ministries of Defence of the SEE countries. The essence of the process is strengthening political-military cooperation in the region, in order to improve stability and security in SEE, promote the Euro-Atlantic integration processes of the SEDM member states and enhance cooperation with international organizations (UN, EU, NATO and OSCE). Currently (2019–2021) the coordination bodies of SEDM are chaired by the Republic of Albania.

One of the most important projects of the SEDM process is the South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG), whose headquarters from August 2020 to August 2026 is permanently located in Kumanovo, the Republic of North Macedonia.
