North Macedonia and NATO strengthen the response to cyber attacks – signed Memorandum of Understanding

The Minister of Defence, Radmila Shekerinska, and the NATO Assistant Secretary General, David van Weel, in his capacity as the Chair of the Cyber Defence Management Board (CDMB), signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cyber defence cooperation between North Macedonia and NATO.

This Memorandum of Understanding aims to improve and enhance the cyber defence cooperation and assistance, between NATO and the national cyber defence authorities.
“Cyber defence is an area that we take very seriously. The Memorandum of Understanding on cyber defence cooperation with NATO enables a coordinated response of the allies in case of cyber attack and represents a serious contribution to strengthening the national capacities for dealing with cyber attacks, as well as strengthening the Alliance’s resistance in general”, said Minister Shekerinska.
“Cyber defence is a priority for NATO and its Allies. Enhancing resilience to evolving cyber threats is critical, and this MOU on cyber defence that was signed with North Macedonia is an important step”, said Assistant Secretary General Van Weel.

The Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the information sharing on cyber threats and best practices, improve the prevention of cyber incidents, and help increase North Macedonia’s resilience to cyber threats.

Furthermore, the Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the mutual support of the NATO and North Macedonia’s cyber defence authorities, if and when necessary.
