In her statement for the public, Shekerinska said that the presence of our delegation at one of the aircraft carriers Truman, which is part of the NATO fleet in the Mediterranean, shows what that means for our country.
“The Truman aircraft carrier is already part of our defence. The aircraft on the carrier, and the aircraft in the base you see today, are all part of our defence. All of them, more than 5,000 soldiers on the aircraft carrier, are part of our defence, just as our facilities are part of the NATO system. This is what we were fighting for, this is what we worked for, and this is what our country has invested a lot in”, said Minister Shekerinska , highlighting what it means to be part of the greatest and most powerful military and political alliance.
“Now is the chance to gather the fruits of our NATO membership, to have more opportunities for domestic and foreign investment, to create more opportunities for jobs and higher wages and salaries, and to show that only a safe country creates and prosperous future”, said Shekerinska.
Last week, in London, Prime Minister Zaev said that we saw firsthand what it means to be part of the family of the NATO member states. “We were side by side with the political leaders of the Alliance. By visiting the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, one of the most impressive representatives of the power and complexity of the system for efficient operational tasks of maintaining security, peace and stability in the world and meeting with Admiral James Foggo, we have completed the picture of the most powerful military and security alliance of the world, and the fact that North Macedonia is belonging to the strongest system of collective security that unites almost 1 billion people in the democratic world. The strongest countries in the world are our allies. North Macedonia is a partner and an ally with them all”, said Prime Minister Zaev in his statement for the public.
Prime Minister Zaev stressed that the meeting with Admiral Foggo on the Harry S. Harry S. Truman is one of 10 Nimitz aircraft carriers, with a length of 333 and metres and a capacity of 100,000 tons. They work on nuclear power, developing a maximum speed of 30 nautical knots (56 km/h) and a maximum strength of 260,000 horse powers. Since they work on nuclear drive, they can be active at sea for over 20 years before you need new power supply, and the service life is over 50 years.
This generation of carriers are the largest warships that the United States have, and when sailing they are by several other ships (Carrier Strike Group) .The Nimitz aircraft carriers are equipped with highly developed technological equipment and armament (for defensive and offensive use) and a crew of 6,250 military personnel, including the pilots, with a capacity to accommodate 90 aircraft (airplanes and helicopters) and a runway of 1.8 ha.
It is the first aircraft carrier in the world from which unmanned aerial vehicles (military drones) have taken off and landed in 2012. It was put in use in 1998, and has won 17 awards.
