Defense Minister Radmila Shekerinska met today in the premises of the Ministry with Matthew Palmer, US Deputy Assistant Secretary and Special Representative for the Western Balkans, who is visiting our country.
The meeting focused on the NATO perspective of our country which has become quite clear with the ratification of the US Senate and 25 other NATO member states – North Macedonia will soon be confirmed as the 30th NATO member state. The high ranking guest from the US State Department reaffirmed US support for our country and for the country’s European perspective.
“The ratification in the US Senate and the visit of US Secretary of State Pompeo are strong evidence of the strategic partnership and US support for North Macedonia. The failure of the European Council to adopt a decision for opening the accession negotiations does not change our decision – to work towards achieving our strategic goals – membership of the European Union and NATO” Minister Shekerinska said.
Minister Shekerinska and US Deputy Assistant Secretary Palmer concluded that defense co-operation between the two countries is at its highest level and that North Macedonia’s NATO membership will strengthen that co-operation even further.
