At the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska had a separate meeting with her French colleague and counterpart Florence Parly.
At the meeting with the French Minister, Minister Shekerinska informed her about the adoption of the Law on the Ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty in the Assembly, as one of the last steps towards the full-fledged membership. Shekerinska expressed her satisfaction with the increased intensity of defence cooperation between the two countries, especially bearing in mind the preparations for the participation of the members of the Army for the European Union Training Mission in the Central African Republic, along with the members of the armed forces of France.
Expressing confidence in the success of our country, Minister Parly underlined that the courage that we have demonstrated and the problem-solving policymaking should be an example for the entire region.
In the context of the start of negotiations for EU membership, Minister Shekerinska asked France for support, given that the new methodology for accession negotiations has already been presented, for which North Macedonia has provided its support.
“If we are faced with strict rules and criteria, we can achieve even better results”, said Minister Shekerinska at the meeting.
The meetings of the North Atlantic Council will resume today with the session dedicated to the increase of the defence budgets of the Alliance member countries. In the course of the day, Minister Shekerinska will also attend the meeting of the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan contributing countries, as well as additional bilateral meetings and a working lunch with the defence ministers from the region.
