Working meeting on improving gender equality and gender perspective in defence

The mapping of best practices and policies through concrete examples in the integration of gender equality in defence, as well as the development of strategies and mechanisms for the improvement of gender perspective, is the topic of today’s working meeting titled “Strengthening regional cooperation on gender integration within security sector reforms in the Western Balkans”.

The working meeting co-organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of North Macedonia and SEESAC, was attended by representatives from the Ministry and the Army, who are part of the Working Group for integration of gender perspective in these institutions.

Within the five separate sessions, the participants discussed the mechanisms for gender equality, regional cooperation, the use of gender sensitive data in the development of human resources policies, mechanisms for psychological and sexual harassment at the workplace, as well as raising gender awareness and advancement of gender training in the Ministry and the Army.

Today’s working meeting enabled the exchange of experiences, information and lessons learned, and also contributed to determining the future steps in integrating gender equality with the goal of further improving the conditions and personnel policies for career development, as well as to more efficiently attract new quality staff in the Ministry and Army.
