Twenty-eight of the 29 member states have ratified Macedonia’s NATO Membership Protocol in practically nine months, which is a strong political message, Defense Minister Radmila Shekerinska said today, noting that we are virtually a step away from full fledged membership in the Alliance as the Protocol was ratified in France today.
“Today we are literally a step away from full fledged membership in NATO, after the French Parliament ratified the Protocol on our NATO accession. The debate in the French National Assembly at nine o’clock this morning was interesting. This shows that the ratification process is going fast and that as a state we were right and we were ambitious and we showed that we have earned and deserve this membership. The process remains to be completed only in Spain. No member state had any dilemma about our membership in the Alliance” Minister Shekerinska said.
The Minister added that the same message is expected to be sent from the NATO summit in London, as well as the treatment of our country to become a de facto member of the Alliance.
“The news from Paris has shown that as a state we are realizing our strategic goals and I am convinced that this strategic success will give us the strength to do other things as well” Shekerinska said.
With today’s ratification by the Republic of France, which is the 28th of the 29 NATO member states, Spain’s ratification remains, where due to the uncertainty over the formation of a government following the recent elections, the ratification process will take place in the upcoming period.
